Piers Anthony | I gave up on the Xanth series (which I liked) after about the first half dozen. However, I am impressed with the breadth of styles Anthony commands. If you haven't read anything but his Xanth novels, try something else. I've enjoyed most of his books. |
Issac Asimov | |
Ray Bradbury | The author who introduced me to the genre, back in grammar school. |
Arthur C. Clarke | |
Barbara Hambly | I've liked every book she has written, and loved nearly all of them. She creates wonderful characters, and uses some great words (e.g. "ophidian"). |
Robert A. Heinlein | |
O. Henry | |
Alistair Maclean | One of my first favorite authors, a master of the spy thriller. |
A. A. Milne | |
Larry Niven | |
Terry Pratchett | Discworld, of course. |
Clifford D. Simak | Another one of my early favorites. |
Mark Twain | |
Connie Willis | I hadn't read any of her books until we were co-guests at a convention. Then I found out why she has won so many awards. |
